As the summer of 2025 comes to a close and we are entering the Fall months, I thought I’d give everyone an update on business so far this year and what I expect to see in the future. Most manufacturers, distributors and roofing contractors have seen very sluggish new construction and reroof markets this year. Though it’s hard to pinpoint any singular reason for this sluggishness, I feel the combination of higher interest rates, apprehension regarding tariffs, reductions in the labor force, etc. have each played a role in the recent slowdowns we have seen.
On the bright side, raw materials costs have remained steady and I foresee no increase in U.S. PLY prices in the near future. Also, I am hearing from people in the know that interest rates will be lowered in the next month or so. This should help facilitate more new construction and reroof opportunities in 2026.
Even though 2025 sales have been down for most companies, I encourage everyone to keep a long-term perspective in that the last several years have seen record-setting years and we were due for a slowdown. But there is good news as most indicators show that we will begin to see an uptick in the construction industry in the beginning half of 2026.
Lastly, I encourage everyone who is attending the 2025 RCAT Convention in Round Rock, TX to stop by the U.S. PLY booth. Myself, Scott Keith (National Sale Director) and Jon Edison (Technical Director) will be in Booth #518. Please stop by and drop you card for a chance to win a Yeti Cooler.
